Rewiring America named to Fast Company’s 2026 list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies
Leading electrification nonprofit recognized for putting households at the center of an affordable, resilient, all-electric future.
March 24, 2026 — Rewiring America has been named to Fast Company’s prestigious list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies of 2026, marking the second consecutive year the organization has received this recognition in the not-for-profit category. This year’s list highlights organizations that are redefining industries and advancing bold solutions to the world’s most urgent challenges.
This year, for the not-for-profit category, Fast Company highlighted organizations that stepped up as widening systemic gaps left more Americans without support. Rewiring America has focused on helping households navigate those pressures and access home electrification upgrades, demonstrating how nonprofits can meet urgent needs of American households in a time of rising costs and policy change.
“We’re honored to again be recognized by Fast Company as we work to rewire a new energy story for American households,” said Rewiring America CEO Ari Matusiak. “As energy costs rise, the most effective solutions are the ones that deliver savings directly to families. By making it easier for households to upgrade to efficient electric technologies, we can lower bills, reduce strain on the grid, and build a more resilient energy system from the ground up.”
A cornerstone of this work in 2025 was the Save on Better Appliances campaign, which helped drive real-world adoption of efficient electric technologies—more than 60 state-level contractor networks were integrated into Rewiring America’s Contractor Finder tool to connect families with qualified local installers, and graduates of the Electric Coaches program helped homeowners navigate home projects. In parallel, Rewiring America partnered directly with communities in Rhode Island, Virginia, and Colorado to pilot bulk purchasing efforts, where residents negotiated discounts from appliance manufacturers and contractors, demonstrating a scalable model for lowering upfront costs and accelerating adoption.
Alongside these efforts, Rewiring America’s Homegrown Energy report has informed a growing policy conversation about how to meet rising electricity demand while keeping costs down. The analysis shows that investments in household upgrades such as heat pumps, rooftop solar, and home batteries can unlock significant grid capacity while delivering immediate savings and resilience benefits to families.
This approach is already gaining traction with policymakers, regulators, utilities, and major technology companies exploring ways to meet demand growth without shifting costs onto ratepayers. Rewiring America continues to work with partners across the country to translate this model into actionable policy, pilot programs, and utility frameworks that treat households as essential energy infrastructure.
