Aimee Witteman Joins Rewiring America

Former Energy Department and climate philanthropy leader will head investment strategy to scale home and community electrification

Washington, DC, Tuesday, July 25, 2023 - Former federal policymaker and climate philanthropy leader Aimee Witteman is joining Rewiring America as Head of Investment.

Witteman is the former Deputy Assistant Secretary for Intergovernmental Affairs at the U.S. Department of Energy, former Energy Foundation Vice President for States & Regions, former Director of U.S. States Policy at the Climate Imperative Foundation, and spent a decade at the McKnight Foundation designing and leading their climate grantmaking program aimed at decarbonizing the Midwest economy and embedding democratic participation and racial equity into the Foundation’s climate portfolio. Earlier this year, Witteman led the launch of Invest in Our Future, with $180 million in philanthropic pledges over three years, to leverage the more than $1 trillion in recently-enacted federal funds to tackle the climate crisis and make the American economy stronger, cleaner, and more equitable. Rewiring America is one of its grant recipients.

At Rewiring America, Witteman will lead the team attracting investment from the philanthropy sector and corporate partnerships in order to scale strategies that help families and communities electrify.

“Aimee has worked at every level to help build a strong and diverse climate movement, including helping launch the most impressive philanthropic effort I’ve ever seen to connect Americans with the massive investments their elected leaders have just made to help them transition to clean and affordable energy,” said Ari Matusiak, Rewiring America co-founder and CEO. “She will help us match our ambition to help every American household go electric with the resources needed to do it. We are thrilled she is here.”

“A year ago, the enactment of the historic Inflation Reduction Act made widespread, equitable decarbonization of the U.S. economy not just possible, but a lot more affordable. And electrification is central to that,” said Aimee Witteman, Rewiring America’s new Head of Investment. “Rewiring exemplifies ambition, scale, and commitment to community. It’s an exciting time to join this brilliant team that’s poised to have a significant impact on our country’s emission-reduction goals, on public health and household resilience.”

Rewiring America is currently supported by philanthropic grants and donations from the public. In the coming months, a series of business partnerships will help scale the reach of information to American consumers and create new revenue opportunities to sustain the work of the nonprofit organization.
