Rewiring America Hires Up to Build the Digital Tools Americans Need to Electrify Everything

Over 400,000 Americans have used Rewiring America's Household Savings Calculator since August

WASHINGTON, D.C.—With two new key hires, Rewiring America, the leading nonprofit working to electrify our communities, is assembling a world-class product and engineering team that will build the tools necessary to help Americans electrify everything. The growing product team will make electrification easier, guiding and connecting Americans and their communities to the machines, installers, and Inflation Reduction Act incentives needed to meet U.S. climate goals, lower energy bills and make homes and workplaces healthier for all.

“Our ability, as a nation of households and communities, to meet our climate and clean energy goals is bounded only by our access to the tools and information to do it,” said Rewiring America CEO Ari Matusiak. “We’ve seen incredible demand for more tools after launching our digital IRA Savings Calculator in August—over 400,000 Americans have used it to understand just how big their electric bank account will be. With this growing team, Rewiring America will build the digital gateway to an electric future, creating a suite of products that will ease the electrification journey for everyone.”

ClimateTech product leader Tom Mercer is Rewiring America’s new Head of Product, recruiting and leading a team to build software to help people and communities accelerate their electrification progress. Mercer comes to Rewiring America from his role as VP of Product for Remix, a transportation planning software startup that became part of Via Transportation in a $100 million acquisition last year. Mercer led development of new products and features that contributed to the largest projects in company history for clients including the New York City Metropolitan Transit Authority and Transport for London. Prior to Remix, Mercer led Product Management for Opower and was responsible for the platform that delivered hundreds of millions of personalized energy reports to utility customers every year. Opower was acquired by Oracle in 2016.

Software engineering leader Tom Carden is Rewiring America’s new Head of Engineering, recruiting and leading a team to build and scale the new suite of software tools. Carden joined e-commerce startup Square in 2012 and helped it grow into a global enterprise. He founded the engineering team for Square’s new bank, building a new connection to the Federal Reserve, launching Square Savings, and representing the bank’s technology program to FDIC examiners. He also brings a decade of experience building maps and visualizations, for customers including Microsoft, Twitter, and The New York Times.
