NEW YORK, NY – Rewiring America, the nation’s leading non-profit working to electrify everything, announced today that Con Edison President Matthew Ketschke has joined the newly-formed CEOs for Electrification coalition.

The new federal Inflation Reduction Act offers substantial benefits to people who want to go electric, offering upfront discounts for clean, electric home appliances and vehicles, solar and battery storage, geothermal and funding for rental housing to go electric. Con Edison customers and workers can start planning now for incentives that will be available in the new year.

“Con Edison has responsibilities to provide reliable energy to its customers and value to its shareholders,” said Rewiring America Head of Partnerships and Engagement Keishaa Austin. “But Con Edison knows its responsibilities do not end there: the company is transitioning to greater solar and wind energy supplies, supports building codes that phase out natural gas in new construction, and is incentivizing the use of electric vehicles. Through CEOs for Electrification, we will keep working with Con Edison to empower all their customers and employees to meet their climate goals by electrifying the machines in their homes.”

“Con Edison takes a comprehensive approach to decarbonization,” said Matthew Ketschke, president of Con Edison of New York, Inc. “To reach our clean energy goals we’re delivering new sources of renewable energy to our customers. But we’re also helping them improve their energy efficiency with better technology and adopt zero-emissions electric appliances and cars. We look forward to amplifying our efforts through this coalition, so that together we can achieve our clean energy goals in New York and across the country.”

CEOs for Electrification brings together a coalition of companies to accelerate the market transformations required to electrify everything, starting with the American household. Research from Rewiring America shows 42 percent of U.S. energy emissions come from decisions made around the kitchen table: how we heat and cool our homes, dry our clothes and get around. That number grows to over 60 percent when we include where we go to work and school. Working together, CEOs for Electrification aims to create millions of new local jobs, deliver energy bill savings from clean, electric appliances, improve indoor air quality and health outcomes and reduce climate-warming emissions. We will not get to zero emissions by 2050 without electrification.

CEOs for Electrification pledge to make electrification core to their business, developing plans to convert their companies’ energy sources and the machines they use to clean electricity, finding ways to educate and reward employees who make the switch at home and at work, and investing in products, businesses and technologies that enable the market transformation needed for widespread electrification. CEOs use their voices in their industry sector, with customers, with the news media and with policy makers to support and educate about the immense benefits of electrifying everything.
